The Elrod Pope Legacy Scholarship honors two of our law firm’s influential leaders, Luke Elrod and Jack Leader, whose integrity, dedication to the law, and service to their communities continue to inspire our law firm and impact the communities we serve throughout the Carolinas. By providing two deserving students in South Carolina and North Carolina with $5,000 scholarships each, we seek to inspire the next generation to pursue careers rooted in excellence, service, and purpose, and to ensure that Luke’s and Jack’s legacy carries on.
To enter the program, you must be an eligible student in South Carolina or North Carolina, complete the application form, and submit a 1,000-word essay on the issue of drunk driving among young adults. We are seeking thoughtful, well-researched ideas that offer a fresh take on the dangers of drinking and driving.

Young adults ages 21-34 face the highest risk of drunk-driving fatalities in the Carolinas. Why do you believe this is the case? Discuss how this issue affects your generation and how personal responsibility, education, and peer influence can help reduce impaired driving. A panel of judges from our law firm will select the two winning entries.
The two recipients of the $5,000 in scholarship benefits, as selected by the judges, will be notified by phone and announced to the public. Applicants who are not selected will receive an email notice.

A panel of judges from Elrod Pope Accident & Injury Attorneys will select the two winners based on several factors, including academic performance, involvement in school and community activities, and the quality of their essay. The judges will evaluate entries based on the student’s ability to analyze, discuss, and communicate the essay topic. Judges will disqualify submissions if they contain inappropriate or offensive content, fail to include all required documentation, use copyrighted materials without proper permission, or lack proper citations for sourced content. The judges’ decisions are final.
Scholarships are judged and awarded without regard to race, gender, color, religion, creed, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation.
We will upload the winning essays and photos to our website and social media sites. Please note that, as a condition of receiving a scholarship, each winner and their parents or legal guardians must consent to the use of their name, area of residence, and school name. You must also consent to using your likeness (as in a photograph or on television) and prize information, without limitations, for promotional purposes without further payment.
Two winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to the college/university of their choice. The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of entries received.
The awards are paid in one installment. Scholarship checks are made out to both the student and the accredited two- or four-year institution.
Yes, the scholarship is available to students planning to attend two-year or four-year colleges and universities.

All entries submitted to the Elrod Pope Legacy Scholarship program, along with all copyright, trademark, and other proprietary rights associated therewith, become the property of Elrod Pope Accident and Injury Attorneys upon submission. Entry materials will not be returned. By submitting an entry, you acknowledge that our law firm will own all rights to use, modify, reproduce, publish, perform, display, distribute, and promote the artwork in perpetuity without compensation to you or any other person.
